Lung/Large Intestine

MetalThe Lung/Large Intestine are organs of the highest level of refinement.  They align a beginning (nose/mouth) breath and an end, the final release.

This system must sort what we keep and what we let go of, at every level.

The Lung/Large Intestine absolutely require a clear structure.  We must breathe to live.  We must must let go to be able to continue to receive.

Though the structure is clear, it must NOT be rigid.  The breath shifts moment to moment depending on many physical AND emotional factors.  Our daily release of stool also shifts day to day depending on many physical AND emotional factors.

The season that shows us the essence and power of Lung/Large Intestine is Autumn.  During Autumn, the energy of Nature begins the gentle, necessary turn inward.  With this shift, a colorful transformation begins in the leaves.  This is like a last celebration of the beauty of creation.  Finally, the leaves fall to Earth and nurture the soil below.  This process is necessary for the cycle of life to continue.  To continue to receive and grow, we MUST let go.  This is true at all levels, body, mind, and Spirit.

Lung/Large intestine are responsible for the first level of our immune system, the Wei Qi, that resides just below our skin.  When we strengthen their function, we strengthen our immunity.

The structure of Metal is one of the most dense and hard at one level; however, if we view Metal atoms with an electron microscope we will see the intense vibrational frequency of this element.  Because of this vibration, there is actually more potential SPACE in Metal than any other element.  If we take a leap in our thinking, we can see that this property gives Metal the potential for QUANTUM flexibility.  Metal can hold a clear structure, and when new energy, messages, information arises it can transform into another clear structure to meet that moment.  Again, we can apply this to all levels, body, mind, and Spirit.

This concept also applies to how we apply protective boundaries in relationship.  All relationships require structure and boundaries; however, they must NOT be rigid.  The physical Lung surround our physical Heart.  At the body, mind, and Spirit level, this serves as a protective connection, in co-operation.  The Lung must not be too rigid, or the flow of our Heart will be constricted/restricted.  The Heart provides Fire, Joy, Compassion, and Faith to keep this protective shield flexible at the quantum SPIRITUAL level.

Metal also represents value and worth.  Lung/Large Intestine supports us in clearing out our “shit” so our true Spirit can SHINE through!  It is beautiful to reflect upon the process that is required to transform carbon into a diamond, in the depth and pressures of Earth itself!

Metal includes all electronic devices: cell phones and computers.  These devices are all about quantum connectivity!  Elevating the function of Lung/Large Intestine helps us to make a conscious choice about what frequencies, signals, and messages we choose to tune into and which we let go of.

The Lung/Large Intestine help us to recognize how control is against Nature.  When circumstances in our lives become stressful and overwhelming, we often tense up and hold our breath.  In addition, we may become very detail oriented and obssess with cleaning our external environment as a way to feel “in control.”  These “anal retentive” tendencies can literally lead to constipation!  In Nature, control does not exist.  There is only very high level co-operation.

You can support Lung/Large Intestine now by practicing letting go.  You can begin small, knowing that every effort will open flow exponentially with daily practice.  Begin to clear your home of things that no longer resonate with you.  Release the clutter.  In life, you can also push at your own boundaries of control.  Again, begin small.  Perhaps there is some task you would usually do all on your own.  Today ask for someone to help and fully allow them to do it THEIR way!

Sadness and tears connect with the Lung/Large Intestine.  Allowing yourself to release tears will also open flow of the Lung/Large Intestine energy.  You can practice this with intention by watching a sad movie or listening to music that evokes tears.

"One tear drop can wash away a thousand years of sadness.  One tear drop can welcome a million years of joy” Taoist Proverb

The Key to Lung/Large Intestine Health: Have Faith, Let it Go, and Show Yourself!

Now more than ever, we must honor the Spirit of Lung/Large Intestine.  Open your faith to the highest level.  Everything is happening for a reason, everything is happening for good.  We must recognize and connect to the good like warriors of light!  To do so, we must let go of control.  Our Spirit is ready to guide us on this journey but we must allow it to shine through!  Allow yourself to recall past moments when you have felt this in your life.  Envision the time, the space, and how it felt within your body.  This recollection can reawaken the power of your Lung/Large Intestine!  Enjoy this video: Emotions & Imagination: Metal ~ Refine to Shine!

LUNG/LARGE INTESTINE FUNCTION

Remember all symptoms and signs are your body’s creative expression!  They are guiding you to connect into the deeper emotional and spiritual aspects of each organ from which they arise.

“The Body Never Lies!” Grand Master Nan Lu

Due to the energy and Spirit of Lung/Large Intestine, the symptoms that arise are due to many physical and emotional dynamics.  For example, consider a cough.  When we develop a cough we are clearing energy that has become stuck.  But where did that energy arise from?  Sometimes it is from the Lung itself, but we must observe the other accompanying symptoms to see what relationships have become out of balance.  For example, if the cough occurs with nausea or even vomiting, it arises from the Stomach/Spleen.  If the cough, causes urine loss, it arises from the Bladder/Kidney.  If the cough results in rib pain, it arises from Liver/Gallbladder.

We also must observe constipation in this way.  When we have difficulty passing stool, it might be a Large Intestine issue alone; however, it can also be a lack of flexibility in the Liver/Gallbladder or scarcity of Water essence/power in the Kidney/Bladder.

The nose is the opening of the Lung/Large Intestine.  Seasonal allergies in autumn are a sign of imbalance.  In addition, the throat has a special relationship with the Large Intestine.

If one has nasal congestion, a runny nose, or throat symptoms (itching, swelling), in association with environmental allergens or food, this is also a sign of imbalance in the Lung/Large Intestine.

The skin is also an opening of the Lung/Large Intestine.  Many organs will use the skin to help release stagnation.  Depending on the organ this will show in different ways at different locations.  In general, any itchy rash is the Liver/Gallbladder expressing and releasing its creativity.

The Lung also plays an important role in whole body co-ordination / co-operation body, mind, and Spirit: right side to left side, inside to outside.  Strong Lung Qi is one of the best way to improve your athletic abilities!  In addition, the Large Intestine meridan commands the shoulder and the Lung the wrist.  These energy lines run through the forearm as well.  Any aches and pains including the conditions of tendonitis (tennis elbow), carpal tunnel syndrome, arthritis (of the thumb, wrist, elbow, or shoulder), or frozen shoulder are signs that the Lung/Large Intestine is experiencing stagnation.

Co-operative Relationships

Lung/Large Intestine must have a clear structure but this structure cannot be rigid.  The co-operative partners support Metal in achieving this level of quantum flexibility.

Heart/Small Intestine provides Fire to keep Metal malleable.  In addition, Heart/Small Intestine is the house of Spirit, Faith, Compassion, and Joy.  This co-operative relationship helps us to see there is black, there is white but they are part of a bigger whole, a larger process at work that is always transforming.

The other co-operative relationship is between Lung/Large Intestine/Metal and Liver/Gallbladder.  Just like a Metal tool can help keep a growing plant healthy, through pruning, so too do these organs support each other.  Emotionally, allowing tears to flow (crying is associated with Lung/Large Intestine) is a beautiful way to soften the intensity of Liver/Gallbladder.

It also is remarkable to reflect on the structural relationship between the Lungs and trees (which embody the essence of Wood/Liver/Gallbladder).  In addition, the carbon dioxide we let go of with each breath is transformed by trees into the precious oxygen we require for life itself!

Parent/Child Relationships

We rely on the nurturing energy of Stomach/Spleen, to send Qi downstream to the Lung for distribution throughout the body.  In this way the Lung serves like a chief technology officer, connecting into and communicating with every system to attend to their high level requirements.

The child of Lung/Large Intestine is the Kidney/Bladder.  Asthma is a condition that is rooted in Kidney/Bladder that shows itself through the Lung/Large Intestine.  If the Kidney/Bladder is experiencing scarcity, it will drain precious Lung/Large Intestine energy, this is why the very young (building Qi), the very old, and those that already have low energy due to chronic conditions, are more suseptible to pneumonia and Lung issues with Coronavirus.

Spirit Gate Breathing

Opening the Spirit Gate with breath is a practice that can connect you to this power.  Focus on your navel.  When you breathe in, draw the belly in.  When you breathe out, push your belly out.  The navel is a Spirit Gate.  This magical button connects you to your genetic line as well as to a time when you were in perfect alignement, in utero, with all of Nature.  Begin this practice daily, especially before sleep and upon awakening.  You can use your mind to intentionally envision a loving connection between you, your loved one’s, and all of Nature.  Overtime the practice will become a natural healing habit.  Click the link below to hear more on this powerful Spirit Gate from Grand Master Nan Lu of The Tao of Healing.

Energy Exercises

You can build your Lung/Large Intestine energy with Qigong energy exercises such as The Four Energy Gates, Qigong for Coronavirus Prevention, and the Dragon’s Way Qigong pose, The Dragon Stands Between Heaven and Earth.  These exercises are essential to support your body, mind, and spirit, if you wish to reach the highest level of healing.

Our body has an energy grid called the Meridian System.  Like highways, this system connects every cell and tissue and impacts the function of every organ.  According to Chinese Medicine, when energy is moving and flowing in the Meridians disease cannot enter and healing naturally follows.

The purpose of Qigong energy exercises is to open the energy flow within the Meridians.  Below are two practices: Qigong for Coronavirus Prevention and The Four Energy Gates.  Begin these practices daily and share them with your family.  The goal is that they become your “healing habit.”

SPIRIT

The pandemic is challenging all of us at a level most of us have never experienced.  And we must meet this challenge to heal.  To do so, we must go to the level of Spirit.  The pandemic is here for a higher purpose for ALL of us.  Open your beliefs to this possiblility and it will reveal itself to you!  In addition, practicing the meditative Qigong pose “The Dragon Stands Between Heaven and Earth” will help you build energy and support you to taking your practice to the level of Spirit.  In Chinese culture, the Dragon represents absolute fearlessness, mystery, and the power to breakthrough ANYTHING!  When you stand in this powerful pose, it is like you are plugging yourself in or opening up for an update.

Begin by standing with your feet hip distance apart.  Raise the hands to chest level and point your thumbs at each other in a loose fist.  Draw your hands back to the chest, maintaining the position.  Now, allow the elbows to relax so that it also relaxes the shoulders and neck.  Not horizontal and not dropped fully to the sides.  Feel that sweet spot inbetween.  Bend your knees slightly and close your eyes.  You can practice with or without music / meditation and in or outdoors.  Allow your breathing to be natural.  If balance is an issue you can open your eyes or stand against a wall or a piece of furniture.

The longer you hold the pose, the more benefit and energy you will receive.  Start with 5 minutes and push yourself to hold the pose continuously for 15, 20, 30 minutes and beyond!  Learn more about Dragon’s Way Qigong.

Join us everyday at 12 PM holding this pose connecting our healing consciousness across space and time!
