For thousands of years the ancient healing art of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) has been used to restore natural harmony and balance within the body.  When our bodies present with symptoms, this is a sign of deeper imbalance and blockage.  Western Medicine is a masterful tool that can suppress symptoms; however, it does not address the root cause that created symptoms.  As a result, the suppressed symptoms may show up again in the same or new form.  TCM, through acupuncture, acupressure, and Chinese herbs, addresses the root cause to help achieve true healing.

Acupuncture and acupressure are based upon the TCM concept of energetic Meridians.  The Meridians function like invisible highways connecting all the visible tissues and organs of the body’s systems.  Acupuncture involves the use of very thin needles to access this Meridian system.  As all Meridians are connected, placing needles in superficial points on the body can have both deep and distant impact.  In TCM, all dis-ease begins as a blockage in the Meridian system that results in a function disorder.  When flow is restored within this system, function is restored, and healing will naturally follow.  Through acupuncture I can help to release your blocked energy to re-establish this flow.

Through an acupressure technique called Qigong Meridian Therapy (QMT), I use massage to directly access the merdians that run along the spine, back, and legs.  Like acupuncture, QMT both boosts overall energy and helps to release blocks within the meridian system.  The choice of acupuncture versus QMT is made based upon the overall presentation and patient preference.

Unlike Western medications that directly suppress symptoms and Western herbal supplements that replace something “missing,” Chinese herbs support underlying organ function.  These herbs work like acupuncture to create balance and allow your body to function optimally for healing the root cause of your condition.

Since 2018, under guidance of Grand Master Nan Lu, my use of acupuncture and herbal medicine has been transformed by an approach known as Xiao Dao.  Through Xiao Dao we honor the physical and emotional symptoms as a gift manifested by Spirit.  We open to this gift by improving our ability to digest and process the energy of stuck symptoms.  Improved processing, in turn increases overall organ function, naturally restoring internal balance and hamony.

Restored flow within the body opens us to deeper flow within our lives.  At the highest level, we awaken the ability to connect to the flow of all that is ~ an intuitive way of being and seeing.  Please click here to learn more about Xiao Dao.

Acupuncture, acupressure, and herbs can be used alone or as a complement to Western Medical treatment.  It does not interfere with Western Medicine and may result in additional relief.  With my understanding of Western Medicine, we can work in collaboration with your Primary Care Physician to taper or adjust medications as needed.  Some conditions which may be managed with acupuncture and herbs include allergies, muscle and joint pain, irritable bowel syndrome, headaches, menopausal symptoms, PMS, and high blood pressure.

I accept pediatric patients in my practice.  Click here to learn more on my approach to pediatric wellness.

An office visit begins with a comprehensive history and physical using techniques from both Western and Traditional Chinese Medicine.  The treatment plan will be designed for an individual's unique physical, emotional, and energetic conditions.  The plan may integrate recommendations from Dragon's Way Qigong ® to empower body, mind, and spiritual healing.

Visits typically occur every other week for a minimum of 6 weeks.  All sessions integrate acupuncture or QMT and Tao of Medical Qigong.  The purpose for regular treatment relates to the way acupuncture works within the body.  When a condition has been established for a significant period of time, it typically requires repetitive treatments to help release that pattern and create the changes that open the body to healing.

Organ Function, Emotions, & Spirit: Five Element Consciousness

"I cannot express enough gratitude to Dr. Melissa Laborsky for giving me my life back through energy work, acupuncture and the Dragon’s Way!  After an accident I tried for 2 months to resolve severe headache pain via traditional western doctors and medicine to no avail.  Acute head pain robbed me of my former normal lifestyle.  Through a friend’s encouragement I sought Dr. Laborsky for acupuncture.  I was skeptical, but knew my life could not continue on this path of pain.  At my first appointment I as very weary and had no idea what to expect, but was completely overjoyed when I felt immediate relief in her office after one session of energy work & acupuncture!

I continue treatment, and have had important personal shifts in my lifestyle under her guidance.  Dr. Laborsky is a gifted & caring person, and in my opinion saved me from what could have been a dark path ahead.  Her office has a peaceful and healing atmosphere.  She is a gift to our community, and has literally transformed my life.  I cannot recommend her enough.”

“I had bursitis in my right hip for about 3 years.  I tried a cortisone shot in the past but the pain returned within 4-5 months.  I know this is hard to believe, but after just 2 acupuncture sessions along with herbs and The Dragon’s Way Qigong exercises, I was feeling great!  I have no pain and walk more fluidly than ever before.  No more limping!”
